Vecta Education
As well as being a full-time lecturer at Platform One on the Isle of Wight, Ben offers one-to-one tuition in fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, cittern, and songwriting technique.
He teaches students of all ages, from beginners to intermediate players. Lessons are traditional in approach — face-to-face, personalised, and always delivered in a friendly and supportive environment.
“It is always a pleasure to explore folk and folk-influenced repertoire with members of the Island community. My teaching style is thoughtful and methodical, helping students build strong foundations while developing their own musical voice.”
Repertoire covered includes Celtic jigs and reels, as well as folk revival standards.
Lessons focus on the fundamentals of technique, including tone production and left and right-hand dexterity — alongside improvisation, chord and rhythm work, confidence in delivery, arranging traditional tunes, and composing original melodies (particularly for mandolin).
Students also receive additional video resources and supplementary materials to support their progress between sessions.
As a student of Ben I have found him to be an excellent tutor. He shows patience , also willing to to listen from me if i have found another way of approaching a piece of music. He also allows for different levels of capabilities as i don't always get things right. In my personal opinion Ben is a credit to all his students as a teacher.
